On Monday 30th July the RVC's Widening Participation team facilitated a session run by , who work to;

"Improve the life chances of children and young people by supporting them through key educational transitions"
Causeway Education Mission

This session focused on a key aspect of the transition into higher education - writing a personal statement. This can be a challenge step for many young people, who have likely never had to write about themselves in this manner before; showcasing yourself as being able to undertake further study in a specified field.

Causeway's team discussed the first question, who reads your personal statement? Then they went on to how to structure the statement with the audience in mind; what should and shouldn't be included, what information is very important and which can be omitted?

Using examples the group created a template as what points they should try to cover, and what language is appropriate in a formal document such as a personal statement. We hope that they left the session with a greater understanding of what a personal statement is, and more confidence in their own writing skills.

We also gave a short introduction to the RVC, both the veterinary course and the less well known biological sciences/ bio veterinary/ animal behaviour and welfare and ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥ courses.
