Pierre-Louis is Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology. He is currently the President of the European Association for Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology and a Visiting Professor of the RVC. Professor Toutain is a distinguished honorary graduate of the RVC as he was awarded a doctorate Honoris Causa (DVetMed London: ÐÂÔÂÖ±²¥) in 2009.
Professor Toutain was, for many years, Head of an internationally recognised research group at Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire de Toulouse & INRA, and also the Deputy Director of the INRA Animal Health Department. From 2013-2016 he was Emeritus Professor at the University of Toulouse and prior to that (1990-2013) he held the Chair of Professor of Physiology & Therapeutics at ENV (Toulouse).
He is a founder member and former Chairman (2003-2009) of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (ECVPT) and currently President of the European Association for Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (EAVPT, 2015-to date). From 2002 to 2009 he was Deputy Chairman of the Animal Heath Department of the National Institute of Agronomical Research (INRA). Among several prestigious awards, he received, in 2009, the Lloyd E. Davis Award of the American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics. The citation refers to significant contributions over an entire career to advancement of the field of veterinary comparative pharmacology.
Professor Toutain’s areas of expertise encompass pharmacokinetic and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modelling of veterinary medicines (antimicrobial and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, endectocides, doping substances) and endocrine disruptors.
